Adaptive Yoga

Adaptive Yoga

I have written in the past about yoga, and I think it is worth revisiting. If you are like me, you may think of adaptive yoga as an activity that stretches you out, and I’d rather spend my workout sweating. However, I have to say, yoga can be as physically challenging as you want your workout to be! Or it can be more meditative if that is what you are looking for. It is versatile, and has many benefits.

Yoga is defined as a series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve control of the body and mind. If you have experienced an injury, don’t you want to regain control of your body? Practicing yoga can bring that control. It will help you be more aware of feelings and sensations you may not have noticed by giving you focus.

Additionally, yoga has been shown to decrease depression and anxiety. Who doesn’t need this in their life? Find a peace that will help you deal with unforeseen challenges. And there are of course the physical benefits. A 2004 Yale University School of Medicine study, for instance, found that people who practice yoga reduced their blood pressure, pulse, and risk of heart disease.

Mind Body Solutions is one company that offers adaptive yoga routines on DVD. They are located in Minnesota, so if you are in that area, check out that studio. Or go to their website for more details: www.mindbodysolutions.org
